WHY SELF-PUBLISH?

Before the large chain booksellers dominated the marketplace, books by first-time authors could find a market with trade publishers who sold to independent bookstores. Now that local bookstores have been squeezed out by the chains, publishers large and small will not accept submissions by unpublished authors without agents. And successful agents no longer will represent first-time authors. (Catch-22.) If there are exceptions to this, they¹re 1 in 100,000.

Forewarned is forearmed

There are, to be sure, alternatives: "Subsidy Publishing" whose contracts and performance are seldom if ever equal the potential of self-publishing. And Vanity Publishing which is best defined by its appellation. Let there be no mistake -- Smarketing is not a publisher and in no way has a financial interest in your sales. Our expertise is wholly dedicated to making you a successful self-publisher.

So becoming your own publisher has become the first-time author¹s only practical recourse. But. With more than 150,000 new titles being released every year, the vast majority of self-published books don¹t survive in the competitive marketplace. Not necessarily because of the subject matter or quality of writing, but because of their amateur execution.

The bottom line is this: If you choose to self-publish, don¹t do it yourself! You¹re are the author. What you need is the equivalent support that a big publisher provides their authors e.g. Smarketing¹s Book Shepherding services.
